Sleep Dentistry: Enhancing Comfort and Care During Dental Procedures

Welcome to St. Lawrence Dentistry, where Dr. Hawryluk and his team provide exceptional dental care focusing on patient comfort. Our office is one of the few certified to administer general anesthetic services, and we conduct our sleep dentistry procedures in conjunction with board-certified medical anesthesiologists from Surgiservices.
For many individuals, visiting the dentist can evoke feelings of anxiety or discomfort. Whether it stems from past experiences, fear of needles, or simply discomfort with dental procedures, these feelings can deter people from seeking essential oral care. However, the safe administration of sleep dentistry can be the solution.

What is Sleep Dentistry?

Dentistry asleep involves using medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It is particularly beneficial for individuals who experience dental phobia or have difficulty sitting still for extended periods. The primary goal of sleep dentistry is to create a calm, anxiety-free environment so that Dr. Hawryluk can perform the necessary dental work safely and efficiently.

Benefits of Dentistry asleep:

  • Reduced Anxiety: By inducing a relaxed state, sleep dentistry minimizes or eliminates anxiety associated with dental visits, making it easier for patients to undergo necessary treatments.
  • Increased Comfort: Patients often report feeling less discomfort during and after procedures when under sedation, as they are less aware of sensations and noises associated with dental work.
  • Time Efficiency: Since patients are more relaxed, dentists can often complete procedures more efficiently, reducing the need for multiple appointments.
  • Suitability for Various Cases: Sleep dentistry is not just for anxious patients. It can also benefit individuals with sensitive gag reflexes, those requiring extensive dental work, or those with special needs.

Is dentistry asleep Safe?

Our clinic has been offering sleep dentistry since 2006. Dentistry asleep is safe when administered by board-certified medical anesthesiologists—like those available at St. Lawrence Dentistry. Our clinic is certified by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RSDSO) to administer sleep dentistry.

Who Can Benefit from Sleep Dentistry?

  • Dental Phobia: Individuals who avoid dental care due to fear or anxiety.
  • Sensitive Gag Reflex: Patients who struggle with a sensitive gag reflex that makes dental procedures uncomfortable.
  • Complex Procedures: Patients undergoing lengthy or complex procedures may benefit from sedation to enhance comfort and cooperation.
  • Special Needs: Individuals with physical or developmental disabilities that make it challenging to sit through dental appointments.
Dentistry asleep offers a valuable solution for patients seeking a more comfortable and relaxed dental experience. By providing various levels of sedation tailored to individual needs, Dr. Hawryluk can ensure that everyone has access to necessary dental care without unnecessary stress or discomfort.
